Keeping the Shoreline Clean

In order to clean up plastic waste from the shores and riverbanks of the UK, and to raise awareness of the need for sustainable waste management, our team of Green Gurus organise regular beach cleans with our clients. Keeping plastic waste out of the planet’s marine ecosystems is a crucial part of maintaining the Earth for future generations, and through our beach cleans we’ve stopped hundreds of kilograms of waste entering the UK’s waterways.

UK-Wide Beach Cleans

Our beach cleans usually take place either at popular seaside locations – such as Brighton beach – or on the banks of the Thames. We try and cover as many locations as possible to increase the length of shoreline we’re able to clear, and helping to keep the Thames clean is also a key part of our ‘London for London’ initiative for keeping the nation’s capital sustainable.

All the waste we collect through our beach cleans is then sorted for recycling at Bywaters’ state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility in Bow, with the resulting segregated waste being sent to specialist recycling plants across the UK. We take great pride in saving waste from entering the oceans and ensuring it is instead used to make new sustainable products.

Always Increasing Our Efforts

To make a real difference, we need to keep cleaning the UK’s beaches week in, week out. Every second 250kg of plastic waste washes into the oceans globally, so it is vital to do everything we can in order to minimise damage to the oceans and the creatures living there.

We only have one planet and it’s up to us to maintain it. Our beach cleans are a core part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives; through these events Bywaters works in partnership with our customers to keep making a real difference and set an example for others to follow.

If you’d like to join the fight against ocean plastic pollution and organise a beach clean with us, then please get in touch. We’re always looking to expand the amount of the UK’s shoreline we’re able to clear of waste.
