Bywaters has hosted its largest beach clean event on record, which took place in Brighton, East Sussex, on the 8th June.

40 delegates, comprising of Bywaters staff and clients, were in attendance, and they did their part for the Brighton & Hove community by clearing its beach of plastics bottles and food waste – part of Bywaters’ ongoing commitment to reducing plastic waste.

100kg of Waste Cleared from Brighton Beach

It was an early start for Bywaters staff and their guests as we travelled down from London Victoria station to Brighton Beach for their morning briefing, before setting off to work.

Delegates were split into two teams and tasked with collecting as much rubbish as they could between 11-1pm. A total of 20 bags were collected, equating to 100kg of litter in the form of plastics, food waste, and metals.

To award everyone’s efforts, delegates were treated to lunch and afternoon drinks courtesy of Bywaters and BNP Paribas (one of our valued clients) before wrapping up the proceedings.

A Successful and Sustainable Day at the Beach

Bywaters has a proud tradition of carrying out beach cleans on the UK shoreline, and it’s fantastic to have had our best turnout to date.

Jordan Lamb, Sustainability Manager at Bywaters, was thrilled with how the day went:

“The Brighton Beach clean was the largest one we have done so far with our clients. Overall, it was a successful beach clean, where our guests did their part for the environment and Brighton & Hove community.”

William Ball, Grosvenor Portfolio General Manager at BNP Paribas, was similarly enthused both about the beach clean and BNP Paribas’ partnership with Bywaters:

“It was a great turnout and empowering for the people who attended. We hope this gave delegates valuable knowledge that they will hopefully share with others.

“As part of 2018 Ocean & Waste Awareness day, not only did we collect a large amount of waste from the beach, several educational presentations and talks were given, but it turned into our most attended and successful beach cleans yet.

“From start to finish the experience with Bywaters was a positive one and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.”

Bywaters is Committed to Bigger and Better Beach Cleans

As an ongoing initiative, Bywaters said it will be rolling out more beach cleaning programmes to keep fighting ocean plastic pollution, and that we hope to conduct even larger beach cleans with our clients in the near future.

Zain Keshavjee, Strategic Marketing Manager at Bywaters added:

“The beach cleans are an opportunity for employees of our clients to go out and do some good. This is an initiative that we are spearheading to keep our capital’s beaches as clean as possible.”
