17th January 2007:
Bywaters is very pleased to announce that the company's environmental management system, which was expanded following their move to the new 9.2 acre premises in Bow over the summer of 2006, has now achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification at Lea Riverside.
This means that Bywaters' environmental management system meets an internationally-recognised standard and now covers all of the company operations and activities at the new site, including the vehicle maintenance workshop, office headquarters and hazardous waste brokering. It also covers all activities conducted at the waste transfer station at Marshgate One and the engineering workshops at Marshgate Two.
"Having implemented an environmental management system to this standard, Bywaters' staff are now all very familiar with the environmental significance of correct waste management. This, in turn, means that they can advise customers on the best way to arrange waste disposal to minimise environmental impacts" states Dr Alan Kirk, Environmental Manager at Bywaters. "This can have only a positive impact on our customers and on the environment."
Bywaters will be installing a state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at Lea Riverside during 2007, giving Bywaters the largest indoor recycling facility in the UK. This will enable us to maximise the volume of materials we are able to recover and thus reduce the impact on landfill sites.
