25th April 2006:
The decision to award the Olympics and Paralympics to London in 2012 means that Bywaters is now ready to implement its longstanding plan to develop a state-of-the-art and indoors recycling centre at Bywaters' new site in Bow, east London.

Bywaters will be relocating three sites to new premises in Bow, east London in July 2006. The new location in the heart of London 2012 means the company will be perfectly situated to deal with the construction waste produced during the regeneration programme, as well as coping with the ongoing management of waste materials from fully developed and operational sites. This facility will have the capacity to handle up to 500,000 tonnes a year.

The state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) will be comparable with the very best recycling systems used in Europe. The equipment will include: trammels, screens, ballistic, magnetic, eddy current and optical separators. (A ballistic separator segregates materials by identifying weight and size to sort it physically into various streams. Optical separators, meanwhile, use light of different wavelengths to identify materials eg. different types of plastics).

The new facilities mean that Bywaters will now be in the position to recycle up to 90% of all incoming waste (depending on the incoming feed) and makes Bywaters set to become London's largest indoor materials recycling facility.
