22nd August 2006:
CIRIA, the Construction Industry Research and Information Association, is holding its two-day annual conference on November 7th & 8th at the Millennium Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London, with the first day themed around "Resource Efficiency & Waste Management".

For the first time, Bywaters will be co-sponsoring the first day of the CIRIA Annual Conference, alongside Envirowise. The second day of the conference will be focusing on contaminated land.

As sustainable waste practices continue to be a challenge for the construction industry, with construction and demolition waste accounting for 100 million tonnes of controlled waste each year, Bywaters is keen to be at the forefront of educating the construction industry about the other side of waste management, collection and recovery/recycling.

Bywaters has recently moved into its new 9.2 acre premises in Bow, east London, having moved three of its sites to make way for the Olympic Park. As a company, not only has it been dealing with the construction waste for companies since 1952 but it has hands-on experience of working with large contractors such as Canary Wharf Management and British Gypsum (a recent contract estimates that 50,000 tonnes of plasterboard will be recycled from new building projects per annum).

The Annual Conference for CIRIA will see prominent speakers from the waste and construction industry and attendees will include contractors and house builders, environmental consultants, clients and developers, regulators, legal professionals, waste management and recycling companies, site managers and architects and designers.

The conference will take a strategic look at managing waste and will provide practical guidance on how to achieve sustainable waste practices through seminars and workshops.

Bywaters will be exhibiting at the event and running a workshop in the afternoon from 4pm to 6pm on Tuesday 7th November. By improving on-site practices and understanding the principle that waste should be considered as a resource, the construction industry has huge potential to improve its performance whilst still achieving competitive advantage.
