27th April 2006:
Bywaters is proud to announce that the company has been awarded a contract by British Gypsum, the UK's leading plasterboard manufacturer, for the collection and recycling of plasterboard from customer sites in south-east England.
The contract will result in an estimated 50,000 tonnes of plasterboard from new building projects. At this point, the contract relates to the collection of plasterboard from new building projects. However, both parties will be jointly exploring the reclamation of plasterboard from other sources.
Plasterboard in bags is collected from selected construction sites across south-east England and returned to Bywaters' dedicated plasterboard recycling facility in Bow, east London. After processing, the reclaimed material will be fed back into British Gypsum's manufacturing process, helping to reduce landfill volumes and raw material demands and providing significant cost and site benefits for British Gypsum's customers.
Bywaters' plasterboard recycling facility already has in place an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001.
