Bywaters is committed to operating at the highest standards across all areas of our business. To ensure that we achieve this and that we comply with current legislation, Bywaters has the following credentials:

Certifications

  • ISO 14001: 2004
    Bywaters is committed to continual environmental improvement and this commitment is enshrined in our Environmental Management System (EMS). This EMS is certified to the international standard of ISO14001:2004.

  • Britannia Safe Contractor
    Bywaters is certified by Britannia as a Safe Contractor under their certification scheme that assesses the health and safety competency of contractors and services providers.

  • Construction Line
    Bywaters is certified by Construction Line, a scheme that confirms that Bywaters meets the pre-qualification requirements appropriate to public and private sector procurement.

Licences

  • Waste Management Licence
    This licence is issued by the Environment Agency and allows Bywaters to handle, store and treat controlled waste. The licence has conditions to make sure that the authorised activities do not cause pollution of the environment, harm to human health or serious detriment to local amenities.

    Bywaters holds two waste management licences - Lea Riverside Recycling and Recovery Centre (licence number WML80744) and Gateway Road Recycling and Waste Management Centre (licence number DL 179 WML80147).

  • Waste Carrier and Waste Broker Registration
    Registration with the Environment Agency is required by law for anyone operating a business that carries controlled waste and for anyone acting as a waste broker. Bywaters holds a waste carrier and waste broker licence (licence number GTL/361523/CB).

    This ensures that all aspects of our operations are compliant with all relevant health and safety legislation.

  • Environmental policy
    This outlines our philosophy on the environment and how we aim to reduce the impacts of our activities on the environment.

  • Carbon emissions policy
    This aims to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations. Bywaters recognises the impact of carbon emissions on climate change and is striving to reduce its emissions and avoid reliance on carbon offsetting.

Awards
Best performing small and medium enterprise 2007
Bywaters was awarded the Mayors Green Procurement Code Award in November 2007. As a signatory to the Code, Bywaters is committed to buying recycled products and products from sustainable sources wherever possible. Putting this commitment into action saw us win the award for increasing our purchasing of these products by over 900% from the previous year.
